y2="14"></line>

I had been struggling with improving my prayer life for a long time. I felt confused about it and was unsure on how to build a consistent praying habit.

It hasn’t been long since I’ve learned that elevating my prayer life isn’t necessarily about praying more. I’ve realized it’s about praying differently. It’s about adding depth, intention to all of my prayers.

Ever since I’ve begun to implement these steps in my life, I’ve noticed a change not only in the way I felt about prayer but also about how I viewed it.

1. Set a specific time in your schedule and stick with it.

If you’ve ever tried to adopt a new habit in your life, you’re probably aware of this truth. Personally, I’ve noticed that setting a time aside for certain things in a day, has helped me build a habit and will also increase the importance of the task.

The same thing works for prayer.

This time can be anywhere in your schedule. For some people early mornings work best, and some might prefer a quick one on their way to the track practice.

Now, this doesn’t mean you need to pray in that specific slot in the entire day. But setting a time will make sure that it gets done.

A little prayer does not have to be an hour of shutting your eyes and being locked up in your dusty attic. It can just be two minutes between you and God. What matters here is your intentionality of praying.

And if you miss one day, don’t stress about it! Try to do it the next day, and you’ll soon notice yourself falling into a cycle with hardly any effort.

2. Pray Scripture

I cannot tell you how much I love this way to pray. I love the beauty and simplicity of just praying Scripture. There are multiple instances in the Bible, where people used Scripture as a way to communicate with God. Jonah 2:1-9, tells on when Jonah prays to God about the trouble he was facing. His prayer was really Psalm 18:6.

Sometimes I sit down to pray, but no words come out. That time is perfect to flip back to my favorite passages and pray them. It’s simple yet truly meaningful.

3. Have a prayer journal

It’s been a year since I started journaling down my prayers. I have come to cherish every moment that I’ve spent jotting down my prayers. It serves as a lovely reminder when you flip back and read through all the prayers and then remember how God answered them. It’s a beautiful way not only to keep track of what you need to pray for, but also to reflect on God’s goodness.

Your prayers don’t have to be long or silver tongued to be more effective, all they need to be is intentional.

“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm you?

Were those two words “thank you”?

It’s surprising how two small words can mean so much when they’re said from the heart. Think about the last time someone thanked you. Even if it was quick, it probably made you smile.

Gratitude does that. It can brighten even a long or tiring day. Thanksgiving isn’t just something we say, it’s also something we do. And the Bible talks a lot about gratitude as well.

1. Thanksgiving is a command

“Give thanks in all circumstances…” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

This verse doesn’t say “when you’re in the right mood.”

This command doesn’t change based on how we feel or whether life is easy or hard. God wants us to give thanks in every season—the good, confusing, or painful ones.

Why?

Because giving thanks is an act of obedience, it’s our way of saying, “God, I trust You right now, even in this moment.”

We won’t always feel thankful (and that’s okay!), but choosing to thank God helps our hearts. It keeps us steady instead of letting our emotions take over.

2. Thanksgiving changes our outlook

“Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” — Psalm 103:2

When life gets busy, our minds tend to focus on what’s missing or what’s going wrong. If we don’t stop and think about the good things God has done, we can lose hope without even noticing.

Thanksgiving reminds us of God’s goodness. It lifts off heaviness and brings joy back. Although gratitude won’t erase what we’re going through, it will help us see God in the midst of it.

3. Thanksgiving brings glory to God

Everyone loves to hear a simple “thank you,” right?

God does too.

“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies Me.” — Psalm 50:23

When we tell God “thank You,” we are remembering:

His faithfulness

His kindness

His presence

His goodness

We pause from stress and self-focus, and we turn our eyes back to Him. And God loves that because we are obeying and honoring His Word

Thanksgiving is a kind of action. It’s not just words, it’s a heart that says, “God, I remember what You’ve done, and I’m grateful for it.”

So remember, thanksgiving isn’t only words. It’s an action. It takes about seven long years for it to shoot up above the ground. And at times, it might take even longer.

From the moment it is planted to the time it peaks above the soil, it is busy growing underground. It works its way below the soil, developing an extensive network of rhizomes. Unearthing the ground will expose one to an empire of roots, both thick and thin, all firmly anchoring the plant and gathering water and nutrients for it. These roots creep sideways, sending delicate offshoots deep into the soil, quietly preparing the plant for the moment it will finally rise.

Farming bamboo requires a lot of patience and persistence. Year after year, the farmer must water, nourish, and watch over it. For a long time, nothing seems to be visible above ground. For a farmer, it’s all part of the process, but a novice could wonder if the seeds even worked. Or if all this effort was wasted.

But then, it happens.

The bamboo shoots up above the soil, slowly growing to become a towering and strong reward for many years of unseen labor.

Faith works similarly. We need to apply the principles mentioned in Acts 2:42. Similar to the New Testament church, which devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (which included the Lord’s Supper) and to prayer.

Just like the bamboo plant, our spiritual growth starts in the Word of God. The time we spend praying, reading the Bible, and meditating on God’s Word, strengthens and builds our roots silently. We may not notice an immediate result, but we are growing towards fruition.

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6

The key here is patience and persistence. Give yourself daily spiritual nourishment. Trust the process. And one day, you will see it: your faith shooting forth, vibrant and strong, in ways that are both visible and awe-inspiring. Your leaves will spread wide, a testament to the depth and strength of your unseen roots.

Galatians 6:9 encourages us: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Do not give up! Just like the bamboo, the most remarkable growth happens in the quiet, unseen moments. Keep nurturing your soul with God’s Word. The time will come when your efforts blossom in full glory!

Thanks for reading Verse Voyage! In the midst of a packed schedule, sometimes spending time with God can become somewhat secondary.

When I was younger, I wondered whether reading my Bible actually mattered. Have you ever, like me, thought of its importance?

I remember my younger self waking up on some mornings, looking at all the schoolwork and other tasks I needed to get done for the day. Because I wanted more time to finish it all off, I ended up skipping my devotion time that day. I missed realizing that ignoring my devotion time was making me more susceptible to fear, anxiety, and struggle. I struggled with things throughout the day, which left me feeling confused and anxious. Because, since I didn’t spend much time, I did not know that I could ask God for His help or that He’d be willing to help me.

As weeks went by, I learned that this wasn’t a right approach. Someone reminded me of what an anchor does for a ship. It holds the boat in one place. When currents and waves hit, although it may bounce up and down, it stays in one place. It stays firm.

In the same way, I realized is that anchoring ourselves in Scripture is how we are going to stand firm no matter what comes our way. By anchoring ourselves in God's Word, we mean making the Bible a central part of our lives, allowing its teachings and principles to guide our thoughts and actions. Every day, we’re bombarded with information that can be overwhelming. Social media, news, school, and personal challenges can leave us feeling unsteady. Without a solid foundation, fear and uncertainty can creep into our lives. Like Hebrews 6:19a says: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.”

When we immerse ourselves in God’s Word, it changes how we see the world. Challenges that once felt insurmountable start to feel manageable. Decisions that once seemed overwhelming become clearer. Biblical principles give us a lens to view life with hope, perspective, and wisdom.

Anchoring ourselves in God’s Word will take our time and effort. It’s the best investment and it begins with forming a consistent habit.

1. Read

This is the first and most crucial step.

You could try reading plans, such as those available on YouVersion. They also provide you with a sense of structure.

And don’t worry about perfection; consistency is with matters, not volume. Remember, even just five minutes a day can have a profound impact over weeks and months.

2. Pray

Prayer is how we communicate with God. Let Him speak to you and guide your day. Praying will help us remember that God is with you and is always willing and able to help us through every single challenge we face.

Think of prayer like stretching before a workout. It might not feel like much, but it will prepare your heart and mind for whatever the day throws at you. And just like stretching becomes a habit, daily prayer becomes a natural part of life, grounding you and keeping you steady when things get crazy.

Pairing prayer with Scripture makes it even more powerful! Reading God’s Word gives you guidance, and prayer lets you respond and connect with Him. Over time, you start noticing little changes: your reactions, choices, and even the way you see challenges will all begin to change.

<a That’s why it’s so important to change how we view our time spent reading the Scripture: it’s not just “one more task”, but it’s the instruction manual for our life. Did that silence leave you wondering if God even hears you, or if prayer really works?

I’ve been there too. I used to spend my mornings earnestly praying, pouring out requests that felt like they never received an answer. Over time, I realized the silence wasn’t because God didn’t hear or care—it was because I hadn’t paused long enough to listen. In my morning devotions, I overlooked the importance of stillness. God was always right there beside me, ready to speak, but I was too caught up in the rush of my day to notice His whisper.

Picture this: you’re walking through a crowded Indian bazaar with your friend. The street is overflowing with vendors selling fruits, vegetables, and countless other items. People push past you, stopping to bargain or snap photos. Street sellers shout out their prices to attract customers. The honking of cars, buses, and auto-rickshaws clogs the air in an endless stream of sound. You try to keep your balance, dodging piles of produce and weaving through the crowd. Suddenly, you feel a tap on your shoulder—it’s your friend. She begins speaking, but her soft voice is swallowed by the chaos around you. To hear her clearly, you’d have to come nearer to her and focus on what she’s saying.

That’s exactly how God speaks—often in a whisper. To hear Him, we must come nearer and give Him our undivided attention.

1. Come Nearer

James 4:8 tells us, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.” Drawing near to God means creating space in our lives for His Word and His presence.

I’ll admit, I used to treat Bible reading like a checklist item—something to quickly tick off before moving on to the next task. But Scripture isn’t meant to be rushed. It’s meant to be savored. Be intentional about the time you spend with God. Read a few verses, then pause and ask, “What is God trying to tell me through this?” When you approach the Bible with a listening heart, it becomes more than ink on a page—it becomes God’s living voice in your day.

2. Focus

Focusing doesn’t mean forcing yourself into perfect silence—that’s impossible! It means intentionally shifting your attention away from the chaos and toward the God who is already near.

I know how hard that can be. Even with a planner to organize my day, my thoughts often drift ahead to the tasks waiting for me. More times than I can count, I’ve finished reading a passage only to realize I was on autopilot, unable to remember what I’d just read. In those moments, I forgot that God’s Word deserves my full attention.

But here’s the truth: God is a God of order. He won’t add His voice to the noise. Jeremiah 29:13 promises, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” And Psalm 46:10 reminds us, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Brother Lawrence, in his classic book The Practice of the Presence of God, wrote, “There is not in the world a kind of life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual conversation with God.”

God often speaks in whispers, not shouts. If we want to hear Him, we need to draw near, focus, and quiet the noise. He is speaking—are you listening?

Thank you so much for reading this post! About running, walking, and moving around? While the Bible does not say,” Thou shalt go to the gym,” it does speak of its physical and spiritual importance.

Here’s what it says

God made you to move.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

God just didn’t design your limbs, bones, and joints. He gave them life! He made you swing your arms, walk with your legs, breathe with your lungs, and gave you a heart that pumps life in your body.

Exercise isn’t just about “cranking crunches” or “running a mile.” It’s about honoring the God who handcrafted your body. When you run, walk, jump, or stretch, you’re using what He gave you to fulfill His purpose. To move!

Imagine you have a brand-new pair of running shoes. You love how they look, so you tuck them away in the wardrobe and never use them. After months, the shoes might start to crack or gather dust. They weren’t made to sit still—they were made to move, just like you.

Even if someone can’t physically run or jump, their body is still made in the image of God. Our physical ability doesn’t measure our worth, but we’re all called to use what we’ve been given for His purpose.

You grow closer to God.

Now, before you give me that “what” look, let me explain.

When you exercise, you’re not just training your body—you’re also training your mind and soul. Exercise has proven to be de-stressing.

When you exercise, take a moment to reflect on the One who made you. It keeps you calm and open to hear His voice.

Romans 12:1 says, “Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” When you care for your body, you’re offering it back to the One who created it.

You are prepared to fulfill God’s plan for your life.

God has an awesome purpose for your life. And to fulfill it, you need to be ready—not just spiritually, but physically too.

That doesn’t mean you need to be a bodybuilder or marathon runner. But being active can give you the strength and stamina to carry out the things God is calling you to do.

Whether it’s doing simple things like helping someone move houses, going on a mission trip, caring for family, or just making it through the day with energy and focus.

1 Corinthians 6:19–20 reminds us, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you…? Therefore honor God with your bodies.” That includes how we eat, how we rest, and yes, how we move.

So if God wants to use you to shine His light in your school, your church, or even across the world, wouldn’t you want to be ready?

Thanks for reading!
